stan stovall. thank you for joining us this morning. sandra shaw has a quick look at the forecast. we have some good news. >> we have great news. upper 70's and plenty of sunshine. one more hot day today. hurricane earl is a category 2 storm, 85 miles southeast of cape hatteras. they are dealing with tropical storm force conditions right now. it is moving at 18 miles per hour. like recent wind and rain later this morning and maybe early afternoon in ocean city. then clearing nicely there as well. on friday, 87 to 90, one more hot one. the wind will pick up. there is more cool air behind that front. that will pave the way for a lovely labor day weekend. more coming up. but now let's check on your morning commute with kim dacey. >> looking pretty good also as we start the labor day weekend. in ellicott city, eastbound not, there is a a downed pole and some downed wires at waverly woods drive. it is on the shoulder. there are some crews on the scene. otherwise, we are looking good. we're up to speed on the inner loop topside, eight minutes. 895 park between 95 on the south side and the h

last night to open earlier than planned. kim dacey joins us live with more. >> hollywood casino got the official green light after a trial run went well saturday night. it will be maryland's first slots casino opened. voters approved a slots on referendum in 2008. the perryville casino is opening three days earlier than scheduled because construction finished more quickly than expected. no table games. 350 new jobs have been created. 80% of the new employees are from cecil and harford counties. they are proud to be starting a new era in maryland deeming. >> all our cast members are smiling from ear to ear. >> the casino will open its doors at 8:00 a.m. this morning. reporting live, kim dacey, wbal- tv 11 news. >> police are charging a patient in howard county with the murder of a fellow patient. a hospital nurse found susan sachs dead yesterday morning. saladin taylor is charged in the strangulation. susan sachs was accused of stabbing a social worker back in 2004. a woman isn't shock trauma after she was shot during a domestic dispute. this was just before 4:00 p.m. sunday afternoo

basara. >> and i'm stan stovall. thanks for joining us for 11 news today. >> meteorologist john collins has a check of the forecast. looking good. >> yeah. you mentioned the fall-like weekend. i was out working in the yard past couple of days, very nice, and a lot of leaves in the lawn. but it's not because of fall-like temperatures, it's because of the dry conditions we've got. >> but let's talk about the cool for the moment. we'll address the wet in just a minute, or dry, or whichever way you want to look at it. at b.w.i. marshall right now, 56 degrees the temperature. that's the low there so far this morning. it just dropped into that range. 72%, the humidity. barometer has bumped up just a little bit, and we have a breeze to the west at 6. we'll still have a breeze tonight, not as breezy as yesterday. cool temperatures dominate the great lakes, new england, right down into the midatlantic region, all the warmer stuff is well to our south and southwest. so again today, very nice. now, we'll address the rain situation coming up in just a few minutes with the insta-weather plus forecas

, this is -- this is a near miss. if this had been right on point, it would have been a mess for us. right now, we've got wind gusts of over 70 miles per hour and it's a sand-driven, wind-driven rain that is just really brutal. we have had reports of flooding. we still have power throughout good portions of the outer banks right now. a lot of people are really, really excited about the fact that this could have been much worse. it's downgraded in its size and power. right now, we do have hurricane warnings in effect still for the northern half of the coastline of north carolina. we also have tropical storm watches and warnings all the way up to new england. hurricane warnings for parts of new england as well. the big problem is going to be the storm surge. not so much the rain. it's going to be the storm surge, anywhere from two to four feet of storm surge, some areas picking up five feet of storm surge, but make no mistake, rainfall is still going to be an issue. we're talking about rain that could be anywhere from two to four to six inches, some areas picking up seven to ten inches of rain, especially as yo
